All of our boards and blocks are made using FDA approved glues and finishes.
We use waterproof FDA approved wood glues that are safe for indirect food contact. These glues form bonds that are stronger than the fibers in the wood of your new KOWboard butcher block or cutting board, and will ensure that your board will last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.
We also finish our butcher blocks and cutting boards with a food safe mineral oil bath, which helps to protect the wood by repelling water and bacteria, followed by a sealing coat of a carnauba and beeswax blend. This helps seal the board from humidity and moisture, and adds to the natural beauty of the wood when polished to a high shine. As with all finishes on cutting boards, your KOWboard will need to be regularly re-oiled and waxed to ensure it retains its beauty and functionality. Our other products are treated with a food safe resin oil that dries hard and can be polished to a shine.
We usually have inventory on hand, but make items as time permits. The day jobs pay the bills, the after hours fun in the shop is where the magic happens. If we're out of inventory, stay tuned, there are more being milled, drilled, and... glued. (Rhyming is hard.) Inventory is usually replenished within a short period of time.
Cows are smart, playful, and can form strong bonds with people and other animals. They are like giant puppies once they get to know you, and you them.

When Kliewer's Original Woodworking was founded, it made sense to shorten it to the acronym K.O.W.

Our "models" of butcher blocks and cutting boards are named after various breeds of cows.
The largest offerings we have are the Brahman and Longhorn boards, as an example. These are premium end grain butcher blocks. The style of the board is where the names come in. Generally, these are named after famous cows in history... Yeah, we didn't believe they existed either, and we were right. So with that said, you'll meet boards named after fictional famous cows. It's a fun way for us to differentiate the various styles and features that we offer.
Well, we originally started making wall and ceiling mounted furniture for the cows, but that met with catastrophic results.
